JMA has provided cultural resource consulting services to the energy development industry for more than three decades, and is in the forefront of providing those services in support of renewable energy development. Since 1999, JMA has completed a wide range of architectural and archeological field surveys; historic property impact analyses, including visual impact assessments; historic property mitigation plans; and regulatory compliance support activities for more than 1,000 megawatts of wind-powered electrical generation and hundreds of miles of high-voltage electric transmission line construction.
JMA developed an innovative analytical protocol for assessing potential visual and noise impacts from wind turbines on historic properties that takes into account the moderating effects of distance, seasonality of views, and observer orientation in relation to potentially affected properties. This analytical protocol has resulted in site-specific, detailed evaluations of potential visual impacts to historic properties that have been well received by regulatory agencies. These analyses have also allowed JMA to tailor appropriate mitigation measures that reflect local concerns and address individual properties that could be affected by proposed projects.
JMA is proud of the role that we are playing in the development of clean renewable energy, while at the same time working to insure that America’s non-renewable historic resources are given proper consideration during project permitting and licensing.
