Charles D. Cheek, Ph.D., Director of JMA's Cultural Resources Department, is based in the firm's Alexandria, Virginia, office. Dr. Cheek received his master's and doctorate degrees in anthropology from the University of Arizona.

With forty years’ experience in archeology, Dr. Cheek now works primarily in the prehistory and history of the Middle Atlantic region, with special focus on urban archeology. Large urban projects have included successful work for clients in the cities of Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C. Dr. Cheek has lectured at several universities, regularly presents papers at professional meetings, and is the author or co-author of several technical monographs and contributions to professional journals.
