Joel I. Klein, Ph.D., is an Associate Director of the Cultural Resources Department, responsible for the management of the firm's offices in New York and New England. He received his master's and doctorate degrees in anthropology from New York University.

Dr. Klein has more than thirty years’ experience in archeology and historic preservation compliance associated with the licensing and permitting of large-scale development projects such as fossil-fuel, wind, and hydroelectric power generation projects; electric and natural gas transmission line facilities; hazardous waste remediation projects; and transportation infrastructure projects.   He has served as an expert witness and as a consultant to a variety of federal, state and local agencies, and has authored numerous published papers on archeology and cultural resource management. He has also held offices in national, state, and local professional societies.
