Douglas C. McVarish

Douglas McVarish holds an M.S. degree in historic preservation from the University of Vermont. Among his areas of interest and expertise are American industrial history and industrial architecture, military architecture, bridge-building technology, and vernacular architecture. His projects have ranged from Maine to Missouri with a concentration in the Middle Atlantic states. Key projects have included a National Historic Landmark nomination for Ste. Genevieve, Missouri; an engineering evaluation of the Monongahela River Navigation System; and an architectural survey of New Jersey armories. Mr. McVarish joined JMA in 1992 and has over fifteen years of experience in historic preservation.

Richard Meyer has a broadly based background in the fields of architectural and urban history, historical and urban geography, and preservation theory and planning. He received his M.A. in architectural history from Cornell University where he specialized in modern design and urban form. Since joining JMA in 1982, Mr. Meyer has directed hundreds of historic architectural projects throughout the eastern United States. Two of his publications, a survey of New Jersey railroad stations and a popular history of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, have won national awards.
